Daniel and Patrick McDougall’s ancestors first settled in western Nevada in the 1860s after leaving the South during the Civil War. Daniel and Patrick continue their family’s ranching tradition as fourth generation cattle ranchers, headquartered in Fallon, Nevada.

Today, the McDougall family business—NFR Beef—raises over 10,000+  head of cattle including Angus cows, calves, bulls and replacement heifers on over 200 square miles of native pastures and range managed by the Bureau of Land Management, for which the McDougalls control leasing permits entitling them to graze a certain number of cattle on allotments of public land.

We are fourth generation cattle ranchers dating back to the American Civil War when our family members migrated to the region. During World War II our family was supplying Beef to the U.S. Department of Defense feeding: Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Marines. Raising Superior Natural Free Range Certified Grassfed Beef Cattle is in our blood, it is what we do!

We know that cattle are healthiest when grazing on their natural diet of grasses and legumes in an unstressed environment with plenty of room to roam. By employing rotational grazing, we provide our cattle with an abundance of such a diet on lush regions and pastures of grasses.

Our calves are never fed grain, antibiotics, hormones, or other additives. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used by us on our pastures. We also know that grazing cattle stimulates growth of grasses which in turn sequesters carbon along with helping to retain soil moisture.

We know that grassfed beef is better for us, along with being more flavorful, yet lean. Grass-fed beef is higher in beta-carotene, Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. In fact, those who have tried grass-fed beef agree with author, Mark Schatzker, “the best steak is raised on grass”.

As well as providing the best possible environment, care, and management for our cattle, we also are developing the genetic line for animals that are best at processing grass into tender, tasty, and marbled meat. We select for these characteristics in our replacement heifers and bulls.

Our goal is to provide the healthiest and highest quality all natural Certified Grassfed Beef and Grassfed Organic Beef available on the market. We do this by using consistent methods of sustainable production, intense management, high quality genetics, and year round pasture grazing, never confining our animals to feed lots. Our system encourages the health and wellness of the animals, and our cattle are never given antibiotics or growth hormones. The highest quality standards are kept and controlled through the entire process from the finishing, to processing, and delivery.

In comparison to grain fed cattle, 100% Grass Fed Natural beef is leaner and contains 10 times the level of Beta Carotene, which our bodies convert into Vitamin A, and 3 times the level of Vitamin E. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), a good fatty acid produced in the stomachs of 100% Grass Fed Natural cattle, has been found to slow cancer tumor growth and is very high in good Omega 3 Fatty Acids which is beneficial in preventing coronary disease, cancer and diabetes; the result of evidence based studies. 100% Grass Fed Natural beef also contains Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium because the lush green pastures the cattle graze upon contain these minerals and pass it on to us.
